Does Hekko have sound?
Hekko has accompanying voiceovers for instructional text, sound effects, and music where appropriate so as not to disrupt a classroom with constant noise.

Can I sign up even if my school doesn't particpate?
Yes. While we offer our service to schools free of charge, we realize some institutions may not want to take advantage of our service. That should not prevent you and your child from enjoying Hekko.

Can my school sign up if it is not in California?
Yes. While our service is currently based on the California State Curriculum Standards, please do not feel that your school has been left out. Most states have similar academic standards to California's. Additionally, we are constantly updating our systems to incorporate the growing interest in Hekko outside of California.

Is Hekko a home schooling program?
Hekko was designed as an educational supplement. While Hekko can effectively tie-in to your State approved home schooling curriculum, Hekko itself is not an autonomous home schooling program.

Are the lessons in Hekko based on State Standards?
Absolutely! Yes! All Hekko lessons are based on the California State Curriculum Standards. View the Standards online.

What subjects are covered?
Hekko currently provides children in Kindergarten and first Grade an exciting new way to learn Math online. The Hekko Learning System will ultimately offer a full program covering K-6, including Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies.

What is the sign-in on this Web site used for?
The sign-in acts as a gateway to unique areas of Hekko. When correct user names and passwords are used:
• Students are taken to the Student Portal which contains the learning activities.
• Teachers are taken to the Teacher Portal which contains student management features and teacher resources.
• Parents are taken to the Parent Portal which also contains student management features and parent/child resources.

How are you able to afford giving Hekko to schools for free?
How can we afford not to? There is a growing gap between children who have access to technology in the classroom and those who do not. Hekko is doing its part to narrow the gap.

I am a Mac user and I have versions 9 and 10 installed on my machine. I also have the latest browsers and flash plug-in, yet I keep receiving a message to update my flash player. Why is this?
The issue most likely is that you have an earlier version of the Flash plug-in installed on an earlier operating system. Delete all versions of the Flash plug-in except the latest version. This should fix the problem.

There are times when white screens temporarily appear during the lessons. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal. Depending on your Internet carrier, your connection bandwidth will fluctuate greatly throughout the day and the lesson may pause during periods of slower connections. This pause appears as a white screen. Hekko cannot guarantee your connection to the Internet.

Why would I want to add a website without a button displaying on the home page?

You may find it useful to not display a button for website subdomains. A subdomain is an auxiliary website level used by larger websites. Subdomains usually replace the "www" of a website address with another prefix. An example subdomain of "www.hekko.com" could be "shopping.hekko.com".

Many times, subdomains are used to aid in website navigation and are required for surfing within a large website or collection of websites. However, subdomains can also be used as conduits to other websites that are not included in the site list. Because of this, Hekko does not automatically include subdomains when a website is added.

If you encounter a subdomain that is blocked by the Hekko Browser, you will be notified in the lower left hand corner of the Hekko Browser screen. Make note of the subdomain address and follow the directions for "How do I add a website without a button displaying on the home page?" to add the subdomain to the site list
